Death Memorial (Self Portrait)

February 14, 2017

Trying to keep myself busy and learn, grow, and create. Sometimes, it feels like I’ve got so many ideas and projects I’m not sure what to do, but this thought often comes with a sense of anxiety-provoking urgency.

Will I ever finish “it?” Will it be a “good enough?” I wonder how many drawings, especially drawings, I’ve started and left half finished? How many pieces of writing have I sent out only to think, “Damn it, that could have been better.”

I spent several hours yesterday working on this drawing and it’s odd, because it came from such a morbid scene in my head—an early death for me and my family at my memorial with this self-portrait on display.

I also had inspiration from two songs, “If I Die Young” and “Crossroads.” The latter inspired the mountains with the trail.

I’ve got some ideas for a couple of drawings. Actually, I’ve got a few that I’ve started but haven’t yet finished!
