Failure
Sean Michael, July 2015
Hope withers
and hatred blossoms,
the inward kind.
Pain is all you feel.
Failure is all you know.
Destruction is the course.
Dreams lie shattered at your feet
and flash mobs dance upon them,
crushing and grinding.
The bitterness is sharp
like a blade splitting the tongue.
You grind your teeth in agony.
A sadness sets in
that seems to last forever…
It just won’t go away.
I know how you feel.

You know…in these words I feel I know you. At least I know these feelings. I know failure. Wish I didn’t but then again, I guess it’s all part of the big picture.

I’m happy to have connected with you. I’ve always been a loner and have often felt far away, but writing gives me a sense of presence.

That last line change the whole sense from a complaint to compassion.. It makes all the difference.

Yeah, I know a bit how you feel as well.
Its like a fog that settles in the space between mountains
too thick to see through.

You describe that feeling that goes with failure so well. Love these lines:
Dreams lie shattered at your feet
and flash mobs dance upon them,
crushing and grinding.
Great imagery.

People commented on that line the most. I wrote it in moment that I felt things were going wrong and in my vulnerability, others were parading on my failures. But then it could have been all in my mind.

The imagery of flash mobs dancing upon shattered dreams….whoa….now that is intense and vividly demonstrates an understanding of deep pain.
