Crossing the River Styx

July 28, 2013

These murkycharon4
envenomed waters
that even the gods swore by in their most solemn oaths

The ride is slow-going
for those passengers of Charon’s boat
for he rows not with vigor
but at a harrowing crawl

Through these murky
envenomed waters
that even the gods swore by in their most solemn oaths

Those unfortunate souls await with trepidation
to pass through the mandibles of Hades
in Charon’s boat

No love
No loss
No hope
for those empty souls

As they pass through these murky
envenomed waters
that even the gods swore by in their most solemn oaths

    • I sometimes, actually often, feel like I am crossing this river, my soul being emptied. I down how I’m going to make it another 5, 10 or 20 years to be honest. I’ve got to do something good first.

  6. You’ve captured the mood here, and really hammer it home with your repetition of the lines:

    ‘ …these murky
    envenomed waters
that even the gods swore by in their most solemn oaths’

    • I liked this poem, but I must be honest, it has gotten more attention than I’d expected it would. Thanks for kind words.
