Rambling about Writing and Other Things…

February 10, 2013

Why is it so difficult for me to write out a detailed outline? I don’t know, but I guess I do a lot (most) of my outlining in my head. I do have a thin outline, though, made up of roman numerals and bullet points. Some people might not consider it a proper outline per se, but it works for me.

I am working on my novel. I have completed three chapters, and I am working on the fourth. This book is many drafts in the making. The story has evolved and regressed more than once. It is so much clearer to me this time around. I’m still surprised as the story writes in its own scenes sometimes. I do have more direction through conflict and into resolution.

And it’s so different than what I’d first thought or imagined it would be!

I’ve got my music and typewriter now so that’s good. The typewriter’s nice–I still do a lot of writing by pen  They’re both essential…

I’m reading Les Miserables by Victor Hugo right now, and I am enjoying the book. I found the book just in time; it was handed to me by another inmate who didn’t want it. I’d just finished reading a book and was wondering what I’d read next. I’m looking forward to the next as well. I’m going to tackle the bulky Gone With the Wind.

A buddy and I are working on a short horror story called “The Carnival.” He wrote the first draft, and I am writing the next one. This will be the first time I write with another author. A friend did illustrate one of my short stories.

I did send out a few stories this year. So I am excited about that, also my submissions of poetry to the Cream City Review Annual Literature contest…

There is a new TV series on Fox called “The Following.” Anybody watching it? I like it a lot; it’s on tonight and is about a college literature professor/serial murderer. Edgar Allen Poe is essential to the plot line in that the professor/killer is half obsessed with Poe.

I wanted to see that movie The Raven so bad! We can’t watch “R” rated movies here. Sometimes they are approved though. I sure hope this one will be.

Well, it’s evening time, I’m listening to 99.7 Classic Rock, the “Nights with Alice Cooper Show,” they’re about to switch to Zeppelin, and I’m going to sit back and enjoy it.

Sean would like very much to correspond with others about writing and life in general. If you are interested, send a short note about yourself and why you would like to write to Sean to He will answer you by regular mail.
